Online MPA GRE/GMAT Waiver

At the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, we recognize the importance of real-world skills and relevant experience in shaping tomorrow’s public service leaders. That’s why we offer a GRE/GMAT waiver for qualified applicants to our online Master of Public Administration (MPA) program.

The GRE/GMAT requirement has been waived for all applicants applying to the 2021 cohorts.

Who Is Eligible for the Waiver?

The online MPA program at USC Price is designed to help aspiring public affairs leaders improve their communities through broad thinking, collaboration and public engagement.

To be considered for the GRE/GMAT waiver, you must have five or more years of managerial work experience and an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.

If you feel your work history, volunteering experience or previous academic record is not a good indicator of your preparedness for our online MPA program, you should consider taking the GRE/GMAT. Learn more about the registration process and how to prepare for the exam.

Waiver Eligibility for Active Military or Veterans

Military training helps develop many skills that are transferrable to a public administration career, including navigating uncertainty, self-efficiency, effective decision-making and a dedication to public service. You may be eligible to receive the GRE/GMAT waiver if you have five or more years of experience in the military and an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.

How to Apply for the GRE/GMAT Waiver

To find out if you are eligible for the GRE/GMAT waiver, contact your admissions counselor.

  1. Start your online MPA application
  2. Upload your resume and unofficial transcripts to the application. Your resume should be detailed enough to demonstrate that you have at least five years of experience managing budgets, people or resources. Please include any relevant volunteering experience.
  3. Write a statement of intent that explains in one to two paragraphs how your professional work and volunteering experience are relevant to the management of people, resources and/or budgets. Highlight your quantitative abilities and any academic credentials that have prepared you for success in graduate school.
  4. Submit your statement directly through the online application.

GRE/GMAT waivers will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Your waiver should be processed before finalizing your application so that you can submit your materials without a GRE/GMAT score. Receiving a GRE/GMAT waiver does not guarantee admittance to the program.
